Graduate Medical Education Office

The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey's New Jersey Medical School and New Jersey Dental School and its affiliated hospitals provide the educational and clinical resources for an extensive residency training system. The residency and fellowship programs are part of a multi-hospital network, which includes the clinical education of medical and dental students, clinical research, and comprehensive primary and specialty care.

New Jersey Medical School, New Jersey Dental School and University Hospital sponsor 45 residency and fellowship programs. All programs provide clinical experiences at University Hospital, Newark, affiliated community hospitals, ambulatory care centers and an academic health sciences center involved in clinical and basic science research.

The Office of Graduate Medical Education is the central administrative office for the UMDNJ New Jersey Medical School, New Jersey Dental School and University Hospital sponsored residency and fellowship programs. The GME office is responsible for a variety of administrative functions for the residents and fellows, including the maintenance of permanent records, credenitaling, processing payroll, loan deferments, etc.

The GME Office ensures that accreditation requirements, UMDNJ policies, resident contracts, Committee for Interns and Residents (CIR) and New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners requirements are adhered to by all programs.
